FTN Episode 521 – How Do You Get Started As A New Painter?

FTN small square

Paul’s youngest gave a shot at painting Necrons this past week and we talk about getting started as a new painter.  The models in the thumbnail are the ones he did.  Check them out!  Do you know any new hobbyist getting started soon?

Hey folks,

Please consider grabbing an FTN T-shirt to help us celebrate the shows anniversary. The link can be found here. Proceeds will go to doing something nice for cast members of the show. The sticker is cool too and has been on my laptop for a year.  It’s the best sticker I’ve ever owned.

We also started a Patreon for the FTN show.  This will help us a lot in the form of being able to hire an editor and a few other things.   If it is anywhere within your ability to support us on that platform please consider doing so. The link is right here.

Getting started as a new painter is a little intimidating.  I did my best not overwhelm what might have just been a passing desire to give it a shot by telling him just how many paints he needs or what the ‘perfect’ colors are or whatever.  We just sat down with some assembled and primed minis and messed around a bit with Washes a Drubrush and then finished off with a basic edge highlight.  He says he had fun.  We’ll see if he wants to paint anymore.

I’m pleased to say we have a link for the official Warhammer Merchandise Store!  Check out our link here if you plan on picking up something!

Of course I went and built 30 more models and primed them for him the next day… ha!  it is  taking a lot of restraint to not just try to dive in and overwhelm him with information but we are just going to take it one step at a time. He already plays a little bit but I hope to encourage him to take things at his own pace and be proud of what he makes.

In the second part of the show we talk about getting ready for the Grand Narrative here in a few weeks.  It is going to be amazing.  You’ll get to tune in for a lot of the coverage for the Warhammer 40k and Age of Sigmar championships that weekend.

We’re delighted to continue to represent Discount Games Inc as sponsor of our show. They are helping bring FTN to you. Please check them out and support the organizations that support us. Discount Games Inc. offers Games Workshop products at 15% off the suggested retail at their website here. You can send an email to the owner Jay. These guys run a podcast too! Check them out.

The Hobby segment will be back next week. We have some t-shirts a really cool sticker up for sale to celebrate us being nine years deep into this show. Check them out here.

Forge the Narrative is mostly a Warhammer 40k Podcast. Each episode is about an hour long. This ideally gives you something neat to listen to on your way to work, or on the way back home. Maybe you can even listen while you are painting or modeling!

Please follow us on Twitter and like us on Facebook!

FTN mostly focuses on 40k, but again you will see in the first few episodes we take a severe deep dive into nerdom. These have been a blast to record and I hope they help pass the time for you. We are now on Pandora!! If you’re looking for another place to listen or you’ve shifted to that platform you can find us there.
