FTN Episode 491 – PAX Unplugged Recap – Teaching 40k and Painting To New People

FTN small square

Paul had the privilege of going to PAX Unplugged this past weekend to demo games of 40k Combat Patrol and got to meet a TON of new players/hobbyist. PAX is definitely growing and one of the biggest draws of the entire convention was Games Workshop’s paint and take activity.  SOOOOOOOO much painting done by people brand new to miniatures over the weekend.

Hey folks,

Please consider grabbing an FTN T-shirt to help us celebrate the shows anniversary. The link can be found here. Proceeds will go to doing something nice for cast members of the show. The sticker is cool too and has been on my laptop for a year.  It’s the best sticker I’ve ever owned.

We also started a Patreon for the FTN show.  This will help us a lot in the form of being able to hire an editor and a few other things.   If it is anywhere within your ability to support us on that platform please consider doing so. The link is right here.

Paul had the opportunity to teach 40k to a ton of new people over the weekend.  Hundreds…  it was amazing.  People who might have been familiar with rolling dice or using figures for another game like D&D or something but not too many of them had done any wargaming in the past.  It was so cool to see their eyes light up when models started getting destroyed or they would land a successful charge.

Pew Pew and Crunch noises were definitely made by one and all.  Some folks just wanted to see what it was all about and it was clear that some folks were looking for an excuse to dive right in.

A lot of folks that  came by the booth did so after swinging by the Paint and Take hobby area GW had set up in the middle of the convention floor.  This allowed new people to take their first shot at painting an Infernus Marine using contrast and layer paints.  It was pretty amazing to see their faces light up when they held something in their hands they could be proud of.  A big percentage of the people blew past the examples given to them to create something truly unique to their vision.
